Cabin Construction

%23%2012.jpg

The reconstruction of the Vance house began in 1958 and concluded in 1961. Building planners intended for the new structure to closely resemble the cabin as it might have been in 1830, when Zebulon Vance was born there, while also serving a new purpose as a North Carolina State Historic Site. This exhibit highlights change and continuity of design and skilled labor between the two structures.

This exhibit contains hyperlinked references to our digital collection of tools. If you are visiting Vance Birthplace in-person, you will find these tools in the tool house, located directly behind the reconstructed Vance house. Text in bold alerts in-person visitors of the physical location of details referenced in the exhibit.
